What will happen in 2012? Will 2012 be the apocalypse, the end of the world? Previous articles have covered the various 2012 predictions, but you may still be wondering what you need to do, to protect yourself and your family. That's what this article answers.
Are We Talking Apocalypse?Given that cultures around the world have very similar predictions, many of them stating this time specifically, it seems likely that something is going to happen. It also seems likely that there are some very rough days ahead. Heck, even without prophecy, one can see that. It's already happening. Epic storms and earthquakes, floods and droughts, many of them occurring for the first time ever in a new region. The thing that you really need to know about what will happen in 2012 is this... How bad it is, is largely up to us!
2012 could be the apocalypse, if we continue to abuse the Earth, and choose personal comfort or even security over compassion and caring for each other. But if we open our hearts, as many of the 2012 predictions recommend, we will come through the hard times with much more grace and ease. Is The World Ending?I'm sorry, but no matter who claims to the contrary, no one can know for certain what will happen in 2012 or any other time. The future isn't written yet! The one thing that we can know for a fact is that things cannot keep going the way they are. Humanity has pushed the world, and thus itself, to the edge of extinction. And as the saying goes... If we don't change the way we're headed, we're going to get where we're going. Society must change. People must change. Luckily, it does seem that it's happening. It Would Be Wise To Be PreparedLacking any guarantees about what will happen in 2012, it seems wise to prepare for a time when we may not be able to depend upon outside sources of water, electricity, food, heat… This is common sense. Most cities now advocate a preparedness kit, anyway, for dealing with natural disasters and other unforeseen problems. It's like making a fire-safety plan.
There are plenty of resources online to help you plan for disasters in general. Disaster Assistance.gov has helpful information, though geared to the USA specifically. (Opens in new window.) Please understand that I am NOT advocating a survivalist mentality, complete with bomb shelters and semi-automatic weapons. That's the old paradigm. I don't think it stands a chance of succeeding. And if it does, I'd rather not be here to witness it, thank you anyway. There is a vast difference between survivalist mentality, and preparing for trouble that can come, anyway, any time, while holding the intention to be willing to help others. Remember, what will happen is 2012 will very much depend on how open our hearts will be. The end of the world probably won't come at 11:11 a.m. December 21, 2012 ... but with so much in flux, it makes sense to be at least somewhat prepared for a time of hardship and challenge.
