Samhain: The Great Sabbat

Wiccan Adventure of the Week

A key Power of this season is introspection — starting way back at Mabon, peaking at Samhain, and continuing even near Yule. And the journey of self-discovery is central to any true spiritual path.

So for this lesson, let's focus specifically on the Inner Adventure.

I have a hunch that maybe you've skipped some of the Inner Adventures, in the rush to read the lessons and do the activities.

So this week, no distractions!

Let's jump right into the Inner Journey, and the healing it can offer...

The Inner Adventure

	Reflect on the turning point that this Sabbat represents, and how you feel about it.
	Reflect on the Power of introspection, in particular regarding its role in personal healing and spiritual evolution. Is this a Power you've cultivated? Why or why not? How might you incorporate more of this practice into your spiritual life?
	Reflect on your ideas and beliefs about other realms of existence — astral realms, shamanic realms, the afterlife.... Where do these beliefs and ideas come from? Looking at it consciously, do you trust these sources? Do these ideas ring true for you? If not, what do you think might be more closely aligned with Truth?
	Reflect on the idea that those who are dead are still living on a plane very near to this one... that they can remain near those they love, and even send signs and signals that they are nearby. Reflect on how this influences your attitudes towards death — your own, as well as others'. Reflect on what it means, that you can communicate with others even across the Veil — travelling to see them, and inviting them to come see you.
	Reflect on any experiences you've had with people from the Other Side, either after death or before their birth. Have do you feel about it? Was it scary, or comforting, or...? Would you like to have this kind of experience more often? Why or why not?
	Reflect on how you nurture health in yourself, and how you might improve on that even more. Reflect on why this is important to you, personally... or why it isn't.
	What deeper understanding about Samhain have you discovered through this lesson/adventure/reflection?
	What insights have you gained about spirituality, Wicca, and/or the Divine?
	What have you learned about yourself? About the world around you?
	How will this lesson influence your practice as a Wiccan?
	How might it influence your ordinary life?

Grimoire-Building

	Make notes in your Grimoire about Samhain — its meaning, date, Element and Direction, and particularly its primary and secondary Powers.
	Make note in your Book of Shadows of anything else from this lesson you think will be of use to your practice of Wicca or development as a Wiccan.
	Make notes on the main and minor themes for Samhain.
	Note the Gods and Goddess Cycle for this Sabbat.
	Make some notes about Hecate, one of the most important Wiccan Goddesses.
